However, how does it charge? If the AR-15 charging handle is intentional, then its oprod has to drop down quite far. The M14's charging handle would have been a better choice.

It's intentional but the design isn't supposed to be an AR derivative. There's a lot of room in that upper receiver for something, and I didn't want it to just be an M14 (not that there's anything wrong with that glorious weapon).

Just realised that since that style of charging handle won't reciprocate, there's nothing wrong with the design - since it won't be connected to the oprod, or it'll smack the operator in the chin :)
